Grab A Jab 23 06 21 v2 Artboard 2

Walk-in Covid-19 jabs are available this weekend in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin – and anyone who is eligible is invited without needing to book an appointment in advance.

Sites offering walk in vaccinations can be found easily via a new online service at www.nhs.uk/grabajab, enabling people to simply enter their postcode and find walk in sites closest to where they live.

People who attend a walk-in clinic for their first dose will have their vaccination record updated online and will then be able to book in their second dose appointment using the national booking system.

Second jabs are also available at the AstraZeneca walk-ins, if it has been at least eight weeks since the first dose for people aged over 40.

Steve Ellis, Service Director and Deputy Senior Responsible Officer for the Covid-19 Vaccination Service in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, said: "Grab a Jab this weekend in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin! We have walk-in clinics open this weekend at Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Hospital (Oswestry), Shrewsbury Indoor Bowls Centre, Telford International Centre and Turreff Hall in Donnington. People can simply walk in and get a Covid-19 vaccination, without needing to book an appointment in advance.

"Be sure to check our website (https://stwics.org.uk/our-priorities/covid-19-vaccination-programme/walk-in-clinic-times) first as clinics dates and times vary. Also, clinics vary according to age - for example clinics offering the Pfizer jab are open to 18-39 year olds and are for first doses only. Whilst clinics offering the AstraZeneca jab are open to those aged 40 or over and offer both first doses and second doses. Second doses will be given eight weeks after the first dose for people aged 40 and over.

"As the nation gears up for the removal of Covid restrictions in July, it is more important than ever that people get both doses of their vaccine, to protect themselves and those around them, with recent research showing that two doses are highly effective against the Delta strain of the virus.

"Even if you don't have an NHS number or you are not registered with a GP, it doesn't matter, just visit one of our walk-in clinics across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Grab a Jab!"

All adults can still book at one of the 1,600 vaccination centre, pharmacy or general practice sites across the country that are available through the national booking service. Vaccination centres are also available in convenient locations.

People who cannot go online can call the service on 119 instead to book their jab.

In line with updated JCVI guidance, people aged 39 and under and all pregnant women will be offered the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine.

A full list of walk-in sites can be found online here so people can find the most convenient venue for them.
